Privacy Policy

Déstaire is an editorial site and, for a growing collection of cities, a place to buy a guide outright. This policy explains what that means for your data: what we collect, why, who else touches it, and how to reach us about it. Déstaire is operated by Lore Studio LLC, and this policy applies wherever you’re reading from, including if you’re in the EU or UK.
What we collect
Reading an article, browsing a property, or looking through a destination page doesn’t require telling us who you are: we don’t know. Buying a guide does. Creating an account asks only for your email, which we use to send you a one-time sign-in code, never a password. You can add a passkey afterward (your phone or laptop’s fingerprint or face unlock) for a faster sign-in; we only ever receive a cryptographic key from that, never any biometric data. If you buy a guide without signing in, we create your account with the email and name you give at checkout, so the guide is yours when you sign in with that email. An account that already has that email is not changed: the guide is added to it. We send one email to say the guide is ready. Buying a guide creates a record of what you bought and when, so you and we both know you own it. Saving a guide, or a place inside one, works the same way, tied to your account so it follows you between visits.
Newsletter
Signing up for the newsletter doesn’t create an account. We keep your email address, when you signed up, and the code we sent you for 10% off a guide. We use the address to send that code and, later, news of new stays, guides, and stories. Stripe creates the code and records when it is used, so it works once. To leave the list and have your address deleted, email hello@destaire.com.
Cookies and browser storage
This site sets the Visitors first-party analytics cookie, but no advertising or third-party cross-site tracking cookies. When you arrive from a link that names its source (for example an AI assistant that uses our catalog), a first-party cookie keeps that source for 30 days, so an order records where it came from. Signing in sets a separate cookie to keep you signed in; it expires after 30 days without renewal; regular use can renew it. Requesting a sign-in code may run a brief check from Cloudflare Turnstile to confirm you’re not a bot, which does not set a tracking cookie of its own.
Analytics
We use Visitors.now to understand page views, repeat visits, performance, referral sources, and selected actions such as search, saves, property-site and directions clicks, and the steps of buying a guide. Visitors stores a first-party visitor identifier in your browser. When you buy a guide, we pass that identifier to Stripe with your order, so Visitors can show which pages and referral sources lead to purchases; it reads the order’s amount from Stripe, never your card details. We don’t run advertising pixels, and we don’t sell data for marketing.
Payments
Stripe handles payment for a guide. Your card details go to them directly and never reach our servers. Stripe collects your billing address at checkout and stores it with your customer record. We receive a transaction reference and can access that record to manage your purchase. Stripe’s own privacy policy governs what they do with your payment data.
Who else touches your data
Cloudflare is our infrastructure: it hosts the site, stores account, purchase, saved-item, and newsletter records in its database, sends the sign-in code and newsletter signup emails, and runs the Turnstile check above. The interactive maps on property and guide pages are served from our own infrastructure, so drawing them involves no third party and shares nothing about you with anyone else. The maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap data. None of these providers uses your data for their own advertising, and where a provider processes data outside the EU or UK, they do so under standard contractual clauses or another lawful transfer safeguard.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep account and purchase records for as long as your account is open, and afterward for as long as we’re required to for tax and accounting purposes. You can ask to access, correct, or delete your data, or to export it, at any time by emailing hello@destaire.com; we’ll act on it within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your saved items and sign-in details but not the purchase records the law requires us to keep. If you’re in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
External links
Most journeys through this site end somewhere else: a hotel’s reservations page, a map, a restaurant’s own site. Once you leave destaire.com, the destination’s privacy practices apply, not ours. We link only to properties and sources we trust, but we don’t control how they handle your data.
